Big Rocks and Long Props Vol. 5 Trailer

As I mentioned in the early post Nflightcam has partnered with Greg Miller and Bent Prop Productions to bring  a new angle to Big Rocks Long Props Vol. 5.  I just returned from 10 days of intense filming with Greg and put a quick trailer together.  We used a total of 8 Nflightcam+ cameras to capture the action from every angle.  Greg is also a machinist and helped us design and fabricate an awesome new camera mount we are calling the spud!  Stay tuned as we will be offering them for sale in about 1 month, along with Big Rocks Long Props Vol. 5 when it releases.

If you are interested in making videos like this it is not as hard or as expensive as you may think, check out our Nflightcam+ or call 866-901-8516  or email support@nflightcam.com and we will get you set-up.

Emily's Flight Lessons: Climbing and Turning

Posted on January 25, 2012 by 5 | 0 comments
Hello! My name is Emily and I'm married to Patrick,  the owner and creator of  Nflightcam.  I'm going to be writing  about my adventures in learning to fly here at the Nflighcam Blog.  Of course, I'll be using Nflightcams to capture the flights. I've gotten a little behind on my flight lesson videos since Patrick is out of town. He's been the main video editor around here so I had to teach myself to use Final Cut Pro X! (So basically, cut me a little slack on this video. I'm still getting the hang of it.) This lesson was about a week and a half ago, and I can already see progress since then.  Mostly we covered climbing at different airspeeds and some turning techniques. And from the beginning of the video you can see that talking on the radio is not one of my best skills yet either. I feel like I'm learning Greek.   Emily's Flight Lessons: Climbing and Turning from Patrick Carter on Vimeo.   You know, I almost feel like I'm getting the hang of this. That is, when I'm not trying to run us off the runway during takeoff.  I saved that delightful little clip for the blooper reel. Oh yes, there will be an outtakes version of these videos. I should have one more video ready in a day or so, and then, fingers crossed, be caught up on my editing. Also, I just want to say a big thank you for all your kind and encouraging comments and emails. Really.

Partnering with Greg Miller and Big Rocks, Long Props

Have you heard of Big Rocks & Long Props, a video series by Greg Miller and Bent Prop Productions? If you haven't, you've got to take a few minutes and check out the photos and videos!  I have been a huge fan for years (just ask my wife!) and so I'm excited to tell you that Nflighcam is going to be partnering with Bent Prop Productions on their next video series. This week I've been frantically packing my gear to head out on a 10 day excursion with Greg Miller. I knew I would need to fit lots of camera and camping gear into a small space so it's taking a little strategy. I will be posting about how we are mounting and using the cameras through out the trip so stay tuned for some epic back-country flying.

Emily's 2nd Flight Lesson

Posted on January 19, 2012 by 5 | 0 comments
Hello! My name is Emily and I'm married to Patrick,  the owner and creator of  Nflightcam.  I'm going to be writing  about my adventures in learning to fly here at the Nflighcam Blog.  Of course, I'll be using Nflightcams to capture the flights. So, yes, I'm still taking lessons. I didn't give up the first week, so that's a good sign, right? I've been taking 2 or 3 lessons a week at the urging of my husband. He recommended doing it as often as possible to make the most of the training. (Can you tell that Patrick is a little bit Type A?) Even though it has some stressful moments, and the thought of flying by myself leaves me frozen in terror, it's actually starting to be a kind of fun, too! The last few lessons, we've been focusing on stalling the airplane, which is just basically when there's not enough airflow over the wing to keep it flying. Sounds scary, but it's really not too bad.  Patrick showed me my first stall when he got his private pilot's license at age 17. I am now beginning to wonder, though, why my parents let me go up with a 17 year old pilot! Want to watch it in action? We created another video using the Nflightcam.  We've cut it down to just a few minutes, but I find it really helpful to go back and watch my whole lesson.  I pick up on things I missed the first time. Practicing Stalls from Patrick Carter on Vimeo. Did you notice that goofy grin I get when he says we're going to do a stall? Apparently I have a small slice of adrenaline junkie in me. It's just overshadowed by Patrick's hobbies. Not exactly sure what's next, but I'll be sure to post again next week!

Emily's First Flight Lesson

Posted on January 19, 2012 by 5 | 0 comments
Hello! My name is Emily and I'm married to Patrick,  the owner and creator of  Nflightcam.  I'm going to be writing my adventures in learning to fly here at the Nflighcam Blog.  Of course, I'll be using Nflightcams to capture the flights.   You know, being married to a pilot, I've been asked on a regular basis, "So when are you going to learn to fly?" My answer was a firm, "No thanks. I like being a passenger." But when I started making my list of 30 Things by 30, I just knew that learning to fly had to be one of them. I'm not exactly sure what's been holding me back from it for so long.  I'm certainly not scared of flying. Well, okay, I'm not scared of riding in airplanes. Piloting an airplane? Maybe a little. And I think there was a lot of self-doubt there too. I just couldn't imagine myself being capable of it.  But the look on Patrick's face when I told him I was considering taking lessons sold me.  He has never pressured me to learn, and I nearly had to scrape his chin off the floor when he heard my idea. His response, after the jaw drop, was immediate enthusiasm. He wanted to schedule my first lesson for the very next day.  So, the week before Christmas I took my very first lesson.  Flight schools often call them Discovery Flights. Here's a quick look at how that went:   Emily's First Flight from Patrick Carter on Vimeo. :::: Sidenote: I'm taking lessons from SkyVenture Aviation (their office is right next door to Nflightcam's).  At the time of this writing, I've taken 3 more lessons (videos to come of some of those too!) Several people have asked me why Patrick isn't doing my instruction. Well, first, his CFI is expired. And he could easily renew it, but we're also pretty sure that the cost of lessons would be less than the therapy that would be required if Patrick tried to teach me. To say that we have different learning styles is an understatment.  We both heartily agreed that an objective teacher was needed. Adam, the instructor in the video, is being very patient with me, to say the least. :::: There's a point in that video where I can hear the straight-up fear in my voice. My instructor had me taxi to the runway (which I am terrible at, by the way) and then told me I would be taking off.  Wait. What? Isn't this the first lesson?? He's telling me something about the airspeed and I respond with a very nervous Mmmhmmm.  We edited out a lot of the talking for brevity, but I have a notable tremor in my voice throughout the whole thing. The fear might shake my voice a bit, but it won't shake my resolve. Let's do this.
